Bouvardia stands for enthusiasm. A meaning that we believe in with all our hearts at Vreeken Bouvardia. We are passionate about it, which results in the year-round cultivation of bouvardia of excellent quality. Pleasure and craftsmanship have been the driving force behind our family business since 1896. Our cultivation method with cut bouvardias from a shrub that are grown in pots is unique. In this way we stay close to the natural origin of the bouvardia, which originates from Mexico. Strength is doing what you are good at and what you are passionate about. We believe that it is essential to put your heart into everything you do. The roots and growing experience of our familiy firm go back more than 120 years and for 30 years we have been specialists in growing the surprising and versatile Bouvardia. Great-grandfather Dirk started a vegetable nursery in Oude Wetering in 1896 Grandfather Jacob started growing different kinds of (summer) flowers and tulip bulbs in the winter. When father Krijn took over from grandpa he grew with his nose for innovation and the newest varieties, more than 70 different flower varieties. In 1989 Krijn and his son Jaap specialized in year-round cultivation of the Bouvardia. A conscious choice for this, then relatively new, flower, which we have been growing with great pleasure for over 30 years now. At a modern nursery, other things besides growing nowadays require a lot of attention, that\u2019s why daughter Tineke also joined the team.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Our cut bouvardias are grown from a shrub in pots. In this way we stay close to the natural origin of the Bouvardia. The plants can grow quietly and use all their energy to make flowers with a heavy, firm stem and beautiful, large umbels. The pot system we developed ourselves is unique and innovative for Bouvardia and offers many advantages. The plants can get easy and balanced water and nutrition, plants can easily be replaced if necessary. Another additional advantage is that the assortment can be changed faster. This ensures a healthy and optimal basis for beautiful flowers.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Attention and care for the environment has been self-evident for many years. MPS-A, reuse of water, biological crop protection and a solar panel park behind the nursery are some of the sustainable resources that are used. In order not to burden the environment unnecessarily, we use multiple racks for our longest length instead of the large cardboard collars. Bouvardia is originally a shrub, a so-called short day plant, mainly found in Mexico. By dimming or illuminating parts of the greenhouse at all times, there is regular production throughout the year. We harvest the flowers by hand. Every day, only the best flowers with a perfect harvest stage are cut by our team and processed with the bunching machine. This ensures optimal, uniform grading and maturity of each bunch. The same day these flowers go to the auction or directly to our customers.
